sustainability

As a deeply committed environmentalist, Jennifer seeks the most sustainable and healthy materials and practices in her work. She understands that her products become a part of our daily lives.

There are less-then-ideal products all around us in the world today such as acrylic which is petroleum-based. Though these products cost significantly less, these products are understood to contribute to unhealthy environments. Therefore, studio jLd uses only natural fibers such as wool and cotton.

We all can make a difference in our homes and workplaces to assure we protect and preserve this unique Goldilocks planet for future generations. Please do all that you can and I promise that I am as well.

Read about the wonders of wool, my primary fiber, below. Nature really is amazing!

» Wool Improves Indoor Air Quality

Wool has the unique capacity to absorb toxins and odors. Amino acids give wool the ability to reduce these air contaminants. Volatile Organic Compounds — chemical vapor or gases emitted from products or processes — cause bad indoor air quality. These VOCs are absorbed by wool, improving air quality.

» Wool is Ideal Sound Insulation

Adding wool products to an environment is wonderful for noise control. It provides sound absorption which improves the acoustics in any indoor space.

» Wool Helps Control Humidity

Condensation and moisture can be a problem in buildings, especially bathrooms and commercial buildings with lots of people passing through each day. Installing wool products, such as my wool designs, can help control moisture and humidity.

» Wool is Flame Resistant

Wool ignites less readily than other organic materials having a lower combustion level. The structure of wool will swell when heated. So as wool burns, it forms a carbonaceous layer which actually slows the spread of fire.
